Should Be Me
03:04

I work all night
I work all day
I've got this melody in my head, and it won't go away
So give me one more day
Give me one more try
I'm rusted out, but have enough gas left
and I won't pull off of this highway, until my last breath
So give me one more day, give me one more try
So i can say, before I die
I turned on the radio and heard your song
It's time to figure out what went wrong
Should have wrote it in D instead of a G
that song on the radio, well it should be me
I'm always late to the party
but at least i was invited
i'm gonna finish what i started
even if it's unrequited
this love affair makes me excited
i'm underground, but still enlightened
so go out there, and knock 'em dead kid.

I was never one to look forward to looking back
but now that we made it I can say it as a matter of fact
I dove through your heart to your soul
and what i found there was gold
and would you like to grow old with me?
I was never as clever as those other guys
so when I got you to pay attention, yeah, it was a surprise
So I dove through your heart to your soul
and what i found there was gold
and would you like to grow old with me?
We're all born broken, and we all need fixin'
yeah we all need a helping hand

Born Radical

Mom and dad moved out to CA, cos that was the place to be
Dad got a job, and mom came along, all at the age of 23
Things were good things were great things were fine, it was the late 1970s
made a home in the sunshine state, and that’s where they made me
I was born, born radical… no I don’t even have to try.
I was born, born radical… and I’ll be that way ‘til I die.
On the side, Dad played guitar, yeah I guess that he had a plan
Make some demos, see how it goes, maybe even start a band
Met Uncle Lee ‘cross the fence one day, I guess he was a fan
Next thing you know, he’s on the Hollywood scene, tryin' to fit in where he can
I was born, born radical… yeah I just came out this way.
I was born, born radical… radical every day.
Mom and Dad moved back to Michigan, cos that was the place to be
they said goodbye to the Hollywood scene, they started a family
Mom got a job dressing up mannequins, Dad worked for C&C.
Found a house there on Arden St., and raised my brother and me.
we were born, born radical… yeah we just came out this way.
we were born, born radical… radical every day.
we were born, born radical… no we don’t even have to try.
we were born, born radical… and we’ll be that way ‘til I die. i’ll be that way til’ i die

Become a Disaster
02:54
|
|
||
|
yeah you got a disease
wrapped in designer jeans
too many technologies
if you know what i mean
already licking your lips
so how could we resist?
and now your father is pissed
but you don’t give a shit
if you grow up way too faster
you’re gonna become a disaster
your eyes are fixed on the screen
a pixelated Marine
shoot that guy in the spleen
just to hear him scream
permission to be a dick
ranks pretty high on your list
and how your mother is pissed
but you don’t give a shit
if you grow up way too faster
you’re gonna become a disaster

Why are you
freaking me out?
I guess that's what
life is about
What's 'round the bend
You may never know
But when shit gets weird
Don't say i told you so
Wait, i think we need to stop
and take a look around
Take stock in what we've got
If we're feeling lost, we'll take a different route
It's ok, if we're freaking out
Why am I
Freaking you out?
I guess that's what
I'm all about
What's 'round the bend
We could care less
So bring it then
And do your best
Wait, i think we need to stop
and take a look around
Take stock in what we've got
If we're feeling lost, we'll take a different route
It's ok, if we're freaking out

Were you waiting for me?
St. Andrew’s Hall watching Ida
you got there before me
we were 17, and so naive
Canada, 2001
I was young and horny
I'd move on to the next one when the last one bored me
What else could I do?
I was waiting for you
Angela
Angela, 2004
You lived right above me
I was mad for ya
We liked the same things
And I got you to love me
We started a life and we did alright
Angela, 2014
Were you waiting for me?
I apologize, it took me awhile, you got there before me.
But we made it through and I'm glad I have you.
Angela
Could have lasted one night. Could have been one day. But we're still together. You didn't run away. Now it counts more than ever. Don't let our hearts turn to stone. I can say that I'll love you forever and you'll never be alone.
Angela

Keep Me Around
02:46
|
|

If I lost my job
If I gain a pound
Turn into a slob
the joke of the town
Please keep me around
keep me around keep me around
If I lost my voice
If i don't make a sound
If it wasn't my choice
If I'm a black cloud
Please keep me around
keep me around keep me around
If I let everybody down
If I let everybody down
Will you save me if I drown?
Will you keep me around?
Yeah
If I trip and I fall
on my way to the ground
I will I call
when I'm falling down?
Keep me around keep me around keep me around
Yeah
If I let everybody down
If I let everybody down
Will you save me if I drown?
Will you keep me around?
Yeah
We are connected, by blood we are bound
If I was rejected and a new king was crowned
Please keep me around keep me around keep me around, yeah, keep me around, keep me around, keep me around, keep me around yeah

Young American Nomads

We were new on the scene we were young and carefree we were wiping the crust from our eyes
We did the wrong thing and nobody blinked everyday was a brand new surprise
Now if we're late we get stopped at the gate by the man who cuts us to size but I don't wanna wait, no I won't hesitate from now on I'm cutting the ties
That’s the story with me, at least the one that I choose to believe and it’s alright with me
Do you remember the day when we all went away in September of '99?
We we real we were fake we ate birthday cake and all lived off the sugar high
I threw the egg and it smashed on your leg we fell down and then started to cry
Totally broke we were in on the joke but it's ok cos we felt alive
That’s the story with me, at least the one that I choose to believe and it’s alright with me

Not Hanging Out
02:29
|
|
||
|
I can’t stay, yeah i gotta go, can’t relate, don’t think so
it’s getting late, and i gotta go
Don’t feel bad, bad for me, i’m over it, so easy
i’ve got a life, got a family
Never used to be this hard to hang out, never used to feel this good to get out
Never used to be this way, but it’s alright, yeah its ok
Don’t call me, don’t send me a text, don’t email the one i never check
It’ll bounce back, if i hasn’t yet
Never used to be this hard to hang out, never used to feel this good to get out
Never used to be this way, but it’s alright, yeah its ok

Back to Square One

Think back to your first guitar, the rotary phone and your VCR oh yeah
Going through piles of magazines reading all you could about the music scene oh yeah
Now we don’t have time we have mp3s and we’ve burned the piles of magazines oh no
But I close my eyes and I still see the way it was in my dreams oh yeah
Let’s get back to square one, you can’t start if you haven’t begun oh oh
Let’s get back to square one, I don’t wanna finish until I’m done oh oh
Once again I’ll write this song, it’s my opinion and I can’t be wrong oh no
Don’t forget the golden age, the time before these restless days oh no
Let’s get back to square one, you can’t start if you haven’t begun oh oh
Let’s get back to square one, I don’t wanna finish until I’m done oh oh
It won’t change over night, we can put up a fight, say you will not I might do it now, start tonight
Let’s get back to square one, you can’t start if you haven’t begun oh oh
Let’s get back to square one, I don’t wanna finish until I’m done oh oh

"I don't know how to do this" was the first thought I had
You didn't come with a manual on how to be your dad
But you love me and I try to teach you somethin that'll last your whole life
My little genius there's so much you know, and isn't it somethin to watch you grow
We're singing together and if givin the chance we'll out on a record and we'll dance
yeah
Bonded by blood
You are my son
And you'll light the way
I know how to do this is a thought I just had everything that I know I learned from mom and dad
now i know b /the thing I must do is take all those lessons and pass em on to you
Bonded by blood
You are my son
And you'll light the way
